Brushes, painting and presets

Paint with configurable tips, dynamics, color and stroke behavior.

Applies to Photo 0.9.0 on photo.et.

How it works#

The Brush tool lays down color using a configurable tip. Size, opacity and flow are useful starting controls: choose a size appropriate to the detail, reduce opacity for a lighter result, and adjust flow when building up repeated marks. Pencil creates a different edge treatment, while Eraser removes or changes visible pixel content according to the current target.

The brush settings include Shape Dynamics, Scattering, Texture, Dual Brush, Color Dynamics and Transfer. These controls can vary the mark, its distribution and its color as you paint. Brush Pose, Wet Edges, Build-up and Smoothing provide additional stroke behavior. Pressure and other pen inputs depend on what the browser and device actually deliver; the existence of a dynamics control does not guarantee every tablet signal is available.

Presets let you reuse a brush setup, and Define Brush from Selection creates a tip from image content. Browser brush storage uses IndexedDB when available. If storage is denied or unavailable, the app can keep brushes only for the session; heed the storage notice and preserve important presets before closing the tab. Paint on a separate layer when you want easy cleanup.

Try it#

  1. Create or select a suitable paint layer.
  2. Choose a brush tip and set size, opacity and flow.
  3. Test the stroke before adding dynamics or texture.
  4. Save useful presets and save the document separately.
