Workspace, navigation and history
Arrange the view, inspect your work and recover from an edit.
Applies to Photo 0.9.0 on photo.et.
How it works#
The workspace combines the canvas with panels and tool options. Use Hand and Zoom to inspect detail without changing the document itself. Rotate View changes your viewing angle for comfortable drawing; it is different from rotating the image content. Rulers, guides, the grid and snapping help place captions, borders and repeated objects consistently.
Panels provide focused views of the document: Layers organizes the composition, History lists editing steps, and the Histogram helps assess tonal distribution. Open the panels needed for the current task so important controls remain visible. Theme choices change the surrounding interface, which can make long editing sessions more comfortable without altering the image data.
History records edits during the session. Undo and redo let you compare changes, while Toggle Last State and the History Brush support related workflows. History is useful for experimentation but should not be treated as a saved archive of every session. Save document versions at meaningful milestones, especially before flattening layers, rasterizing type or applying a mask. The command palette helps locate available commands when you know the task but not its menu position.
Try it#
- Zoom to inspect a detail, then return to a view of the full composition.
- Enable guides, rulers or snapping when alignment matters.
- Use History to compare a recent change.
- Save a new document version before a major destructive operation.
