Patterns, presets and recorded actions

Reuse visual settings and repeat a sequence of edits.

Applies to Photo 0.9.0 on photo.et.

How it works#

Presets reduce repetitive setup. A saved brush preserves useful painting settings, a pattern supplies repeatable texture, and a gradient provides a consistent color transition. Define Pattern can create a reusable pattern from image content. Pattern fills and Pattern Overlay then apply it in different ways within a composition.

Actions record a sequence of editor commands for later replay. The Actions panel lets you record, stop and play a sequence, inspect its steps and organize the list. This is useful for a recurring treatment such as a predictable resize and color adjustment. An action still depends on the document state: selected layers, available content and dimensions can change its result.

Test a recorded action on a copy before relying on it for important work. Inspect disabled or unsupported imported steps rather than assuming complete compatibility with another application’s action files. Browser workflows also have a clear boundary: the browser file service does not expose folders as ordinary filesystem paths. Desktop folder batches, droplets, command-line automation and MCP are not features of the photo.et browser interface. Keep reusable assets and editable documents backed up as files.

Try it#

  1. Create and save a useful brush, pattern or gradient preset.
  2. Open Actions and record a short sequence of edits.
  3. Stop recording and inspect the steps before replaying.
  4. Test the action on a duplicate document and check the output.
